Definitions

Fire Event
Within FERS, we refer to a Fire Event as the Fire that occurred and is being reported on.  Basic Fire Event information includes the Date/Time and Location of the Fire, the Municipality in which it occurred and the Incident Code.

In-Progress
In-Progress is a Fire Event status that refers to all Fire Events which have been started (opened) AND that you have contributed reports to.  Using the In-Progress status while searching can help you find your Fire Reports that have been started.  You may wish to continue adding more information to these Reports In-Progress.

Opened
Opened is a Fire Event status that refers to all Fire Events which have been started (by another Fire Department) and that you have not yet contributed any reports to.

An example of this may be that the Primary Fire Department entered information about a Fire Event, and maybe started a Fire Report.  Now your Fire Department provided mutual aid to that fire and you too want to add a Fire Report.  Rather than starting a new event all together, you will find the Fire Event that has already been Opened, and add your Fire Reports to that Event.
